Information on Glassware   Glassware

Lab glassware refers to various types of glass containers, tubes, and instruments that are used in scientific research and experiments. Lab glassware comes in a variety of sizes and shapes to accommodate different experiments and research needs. Proper use and care of glassware are important to ensure accurate and reliable results, as well as to avoid damage or breakage.

These instruments are typically made from high-quality borosilicate glass, which is resistant to chemical reactions, thermal shock, and scratching. Borosilicate glass is a type of glass that is composed of silica (SiO2), boron oxide (B2O3), and smaller amounts of other oxides, such as alumina (Al2O3) and sodium oxide (Na2O).

Here are some of the key chemical and physical properties of borosilicate glass:

Chemical properties. Borosilicate glass is highly resistant to chemical reactions with acids, bases, and organic solvents. This makes it an ideal material for use in laboratory glassware. Borosilicate glass is also highly resistant to thermal shock, meaning it can withstand sudden changes in temperature without cracking or breaking.

Physical properties. Borosilicate glass has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which means it expands very little when exposed to changes in temperature. This property helps to prevent cracking or breaking when the glass is exposed to sudden temperature changes. Borosilicate glass is relatively hard and scratch-resistant, making it less prone to damage from everyday use. Borosilicate glass has a high melting point (around 820°C), which makes it suitable for use in high-temperature applications.
